Once Thanksgiving is over and you're sick of turkey sandwiches - just kidding... who really gets sick of Thanksgiving leftovers?! We found another use for all that extra holiday food! Follow the recipes below to enhance your beauty routine:
1. Mashed Potato Mask (recipe from PMDBeauty.com)
2 Tablespoons warm mashed potatoes
1 Teaspoon organic sour cream
1/2 Teaspoon organic lemon juice
Mix all three ingredients together and apply to skin for 5-10 minutes to soften and purify the skin. Rinse the mask off and gently pat dry skin dry with warm wash cloth.
Benefits: This mask especially is good for dry, sun damaged complexions. Potatoes are a great source of potassium, Vitamin C, calcium and copper — all essential nutrients that help build skin collagen. The lactic acid in the sour cream and alpha hydroxy acids in the lemon juice will help to gently exfoliate, brighten and moisturize your skin.
2. Pumpkin Apple Face Mask (recipe from helloglow.co)
1/2 green apple
1/4 cup pumpkin puree
1 tablespoon honey
1 to 2 tablespoons milk
Dash of cinnamon
Peel and chop the apple. Put it in the blender with the pumpkin until you have a smooth consistency. Add in the honey and milk. Slather on your face and neck (avoid the eyes) and enjoy a pumpkin spice latte while it sits for 15 minutes. Store the extra mask mixture in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
3. Apple Cider Exfoliating Mask (recipe from Shape.com)
This fall drink staple brightens the skin by regulating its pH. Apple cider regulates the skin’s pH. This helps to exfoliate dead and dull skin. The oats in the mask have natural cleansers called saponins that help remove dirt, oil, and other buildup, while the enzymes and vitamin C in the fresh lemon juice evens out skin tone and the brown sugar exfoliates.
3/4 teaspoon apple cider
3 teaspoons ground oats
3/4 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 teaspoons coarse brown sugar
Directions: Combine cider and oats in a bowl to form a smooth paste. Add lemon juice and sugar and stir to combine well. Apply to cleansed skin and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes to allow ingredients to work away at the top layers of the skin. Then rub in circular motions to promote circulation and help exfoliate off dull skin cells. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
